U.S. says adversaries seek to exploit domestic divisions

The enemies of the United States, including Iran, China and Russia, are seeking to take advantage of internal divisions in the country, especially in the run-up to the midterm elections to the U.S. Congress. Alejandro Mayorcas, head of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), made this assertion in an interview with ABC television published Wednesday.

“The division that is now engulfing the country is something that our adversaries, the nation-states that are hostile to us, are seeking to exploit. And they’re doing it on online platforms,” Mallorcas said.

According to him, the main opponents of the United States – is Iran, China and Russia, which allegedly want to sow discord in American society. He did not give any details.

In addition to the external problems of the U.S. the Minister also touched upon aspects of domestic policy. Mallorcas assured that American authorities are doing everything for the security of the elections, including fighting with misinformation. According to him, there are some forces in the U.S. that “feed violent extremism, hate ideology” as well as anti-government sentiments.
