Mercedes-Benz cars will warn each other about potholes on the road

Mercedes-Benz has added a new feature to its Car-to-X intelligent vehicle communication system. They can now recognize the presence of potholes, potholes and speed bumps on the road, collect such information and share it within the network. This information can be used on all models manufactured after 2016.

At first, the newest C-Class and S-Class models, plus the EQS electric car, are entrusted with data collection. If the system detects a sudden compression and rebound of the shock absorbers on the front axle and then the same on the rear axle, it interprets it as a physical nuisance. The coordinates of the location are determined automatically, and the information is sent to the Car-to-X cloud.

Now, when any brand-name vehicle approaches an obstruction, at least 10 seconds before the collision, a warning will appear on the driver’s display. Depending on the nature of the obstacle, this can be a “Road event”, “Caution, pothole” or “Caution, speed bump” signal. Messages are displayed in all 36 languages supported by Car-to-X, an option that is currently being rolled out to brand vehicles around the world.
