Former U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell has died

Former U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell died at age 85 from the effects of covitis. This is according to a statement released Monday by members of his family.

“General Colin Powell, former secretary of state and chairman of the U.S. Armed Services Committee of Chiefs of Staff, died this morning due to complications from COVID-19,” the statement reads.

Powell served as Secretary of State from 2001-2005 in the administration of the 43rd U.S. President George H.W. Bush, Jr. From 1989 to 1993, Powell was chairman of the U.S. Armed Forces Chiefs of Staff Committee. From 1987-1989, Powell served as national security assistant to the 40th U.S. President Ronald Reagan.
