US Women’s Soccer Team Breaks World Cup Records

According to the official page of the statistical service Opta Sports on Twitter, the victory of the Americans with an advantage of 13 goals was the largest in the history of the World Cup football championships for both women’s and men’s teams.

Five of the 13 goals for team in a match with Thailand scored Alex Morgan, who became the second woman, who had scored five goals in a World Cup game since Michelle Akers in the quarterfinals against Chinese Taipei in 1991.

“We really just came into the game really wanting to showcase ourselves. Every goal matters in this tournament and that’s what we were working on,” Morgan said afterwards.
