Trump Says ‘Iran Made A Very Big Mistake!’
US President Donald Trump against the backdrop of the situation with the downed US drone twitted that ‘Iran made a very big mistake!’
The NBC television channel, citing sources in the administration, said that the White House will hold a meeting to discuss the response to Iran’s actions.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC, part of the Iranian armed forces) on Thursday reported that the Iranian military shot down an American drone in the southern part of the country after it violated Iranian airspace.
Later, the Central Command of the US Armed Forces (CENTCOM) stated that the Iranian anti-aircraft missile system shot down a US Navy drone over the Strait of Hormuz. Recently, the situation in relations between the United States and Iran has significantly worsened. The US authorities have imposed tough sanctions against key areas of the Iranian economy and continue to increase sanctions pressure. Washington’s stated goal is to “change the behavior” of the Islamic Republic. The US also declared the IRGC a terrorist organization. In response, Iran recognized CENTCOM as a terrorist organization, and the United States itself as “a state sponsoring terrorism.”
After that, Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs John R. Bolton said that the United States sent the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln and bombers to the shores of Iran. According to him, in this way Washington sends “a clear and unmistakable message to the Iranian regime that any attack on United States interests or on those of our allies will be met with unrelenting force.”
At the same time, US President Donald Trump said that he hoped to avoid a war with Iran. Iranian supreme leader Ali Khamenei also said that Iran does not intend to wage war with the United States, but will continue to resist Washington.
