Tesla plant to appear in Mexico

The plant of electric car manufacturer Tesla from the U.S. will open near the city of Monterrey in the state of Nuevo León in northeastern Mexico. The announcement was made at a press conference Tuesday by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

“Yesterday we talked to Mr. Ilon Musk, the director of Tesla,” he said. – There is already an understanding, they will indeed invest in Mexico and will open a plant in Monterrey, making a series of commitments to combat the problem of water scarcity. They will help in that regard.” According to the president, the company is expected to give more details about its development plans in Mexico in the near future.

At the beginning of February it became known that BMW decided to invest € 800 million in the production of electric cars at its plant in the state of San Luis Potosi in the central part of the country. The facility, which employs about 3,000 people, was commissioned in 2019. The massive new investment is expected to produce electric cars there as early as 2027.
