Tea mushroom microbes break down fat in the body without the need to starve yourself

Researchers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill have discovered a curious way to provide weight loss without having to change a living being’s diet. This was done while studying methods to artificially shape the microbiome of the intestinal environment. As a test creature was taken nematode worm Caenorhabditis elegans, which began to introduce elements of alien to him intestinal flora.

Initially, scientists did not have goals to achieve weight loss chevreya, they were engaged in modeling the intestinal environment as such. To study the processes occurring in it, and then learn how to consciously intervene in them. In one of the experiments, the material used was kombucha, aka tea mushroom. There is a lot of talk about its positive impact on people’s health, but scientists were more interested in the fact that kombucha is very rich in different microbes.

Further observations showed that the new intestinal environment led to an increase in the digestive system of proteins responsible for the breakdown of fats. Conversely – the worms had decreased production of proteins that contribute to the formation of triglycerides and lipids. These are the main forms of fat in the human body – it turns out that the body began to naturally store less fat and break it down more. Just as it would if it were starving.

At present, the authors of the study do not undertake to draw any conclusions, except that such a mechanism takes place. Further observations are needed, and it is still very early to transfer the experiment to humans. But the very possibility of shaping the intestinal flora for the necessary tasks, including painless weight loss, inspires hope for improving the health of millions of people.
