State of Montana is the first in the U.S. to ban TikTok completely

Authorities in Montana were the first in the U.S. to completely ban the social networking site TikTok, Governor Greg Gianforte signed the law on Wednesday.

“To protect the personal data of Montanans from the Communist Party of China, I have banned TikTok in Montana,” he wrote on Twitter.

The new law, which the local legislature passed in April, bans the TikTok mobile app from being downloaded in the state. Thus, Apple and Google in their app stores must shut down access to download the app or else face fines. The ban will take effect on January 1.
