Orient Express will build the largest modern sailing ship in the world

If you think sailing ships are a thing of the past, Orient Express is ready to convince you otherwise. The brand organizes trips for affluent clients and intends to expand its range of tours with luxury sea cruises on a new ship, which is to become the largest modern sailing ship in the world. The ship, which will be built by two companies from France, is scheduled for launching in 2026.

The new ship will be 220m long and will carry three 100m tall rigid sails on its deck. The designers have designed them so that with a good tailwind they will ensure the ship’s full motion. If wind force alone is not enough, the crew will be able to engage LNG propulsion to achieve the required speed. In the future, hydrogen will be used instead of natural gas to comply more with environmental regulations.

This hybrid yacht will offer 54 luxury staterooms of 70 square meters each to accommodate passengers and a presidential suite with a terrace totaling 1,415 square meters. For guests on board there will be swimming pools, restaurants, a chic bar, an amphitheater-style cabaret and a luxurious spa. It has not been announced yet on which routes the liner will operate, but it is known about the plans to build two such ships at once.
