NYPD does not yet classify the subway shooting as a terrorist attack
NYPD is not currently classifying the shooting in the Brooklyn subway as an act of terrorism.
“I can’t confirm that, an investigation is underway,” a police spokeswoman said.
The shooting in the New York subway occurred around 08:30 local time. Sixteen people are currently reported injured in the incident, at least five of whom suffered gunshot wounds and two are in critical condition. Law enforcement officials are searching for the suspect, who, according to media reports, was allegedly wearing a gas mask. Police said no “active explosive devices” were found at the scene.
Mayor Eric Adams arrived at the scene where representatives of the FBI are already on the scene. Streets adjacent to the subway station were cordoned off and train service on two subway lines was suspended.
Students at educational institutions near the Brooklyn subway station have been instructed to remain inside the buildings. “We have been told by the Department of Education that all students in educational institutions are to remain inside the buildings,” the Fox News host said.
