NASA recruits volunteers to live for a year in a real Mars environment

NASA has begun selecting candidates for the Mars Life Simulation Project. This is a special simulation mission, during which several people will live for 12 months in a special complex “Mars Dune Alpha”.

The complex corresponds as closely as possible to the conditions in which the future colonizers of Mars will find themselves. Its area is 160 square meters, it is equipped for work, life support, scientific research, communications, physical activity, growing crops, etc.

According to NASA officials, simulated isolation has never been more realistic. In the new project, literally everything has been thought out, including delays in communication signals over long distances. A total of three long-term missions are planned: in 2022, 2024 and 2025.

As for the requirements for candidates, they must be absolutely healthy, have a scientific degree or experience in piloting jets, have the age of 30 to 55 years. The data that will be obtained during the study will be used to organize a real flight to the Red Planet.
