Multiplayer video games will appear in BMW electric cars

BMW intends to solve the problem of waiting while charging an electric car with an enhanced gaming experience for the driver and passengers. The German automaker has engaged the gaming platform AirConsole in a partnership. Together, they managed to develop an infotainment system that will become available first in the 5-Series cars and later in other models of the brand.

The AirConsole can only be used when the car is stationary. Users will be able to play games on the dashboard of the car. In this case smartphones of the passengers can be instantly transformed into wireless controllers – it is only necessary to scan a QR code from the screen. It will be also possible to show a streaming video on the displays of the dashboard. Now it is possible to launch not more than 15 games in the cars, but in the nearest future their number will increase.

The partnership between BMW and AirConsole was marked by the release of the BMW i5 with a “gaming” body color – the car came out in dark purple. The emphasis is on the pixelated patterns and button labels. The new option will also appear in the BMW 6 and 7 series. Other major car brands – Mercedes Benz and Tesla – have already started to implement a similar approach.
