Most Americans fear the impact of AI on the future of humanity

A majority of Americans believe that artificial intelligence (AI) could jeopardize the future of humanity. This is evidenced by the published results of a poll conducted by Reuters agency in cooperation with the company Ipsos.

According to its data, 61% of respondents said that AI threatens civilization, while 22% disagreed with this statement. The survey was conducted from May 9 to 15 among 4,400 Americans. The statistical error is 2 p.p.

The number of incidents caused by AI errors may more than double this year compared to 2022. As the magazine notes, such incidents include accidents involving unmanned electric cars or the dissemination of unwanted information by chatbots based on artificial intelligence.

Elon Musk stated that the development of AI could threaten the destruction of humanity. Musk also believes that the development of technology could lead to the fact that AI will make decisions for people who cannot turn it off.
