Kevin McCarthy has been suspended as Speaker of the House of Representatives

Kevin McCarthy is ousted from the post of Speaker of the House of Representatives of the US Congress. This is evidenced by the results of voting on the resolution to remove McCarthy from office, introduced to the lower house of Congress.

In favor of the initiative were 216 congressmen, 210 opposed.

The initiator of the voting procedure and the author of the resolution was McCarthy’s running mate – Congressman Matt Gaetz, representing the right-wing circles of the Republican Party of the United States. He introduced the document to his colleagues on Monday evening.

The reason was the sharp ideological contradictions between McCarthy and Goetz, as well as other lawmakers from the lower house of Congress with right-wing and extreme right-wing views. These fellow lawmakers did not forgive McCarthy primarily for his decision to make some compromise with Democrats in the House of Representatives to prevent a shutdown of funding for the federal government in the absence of an approved national budget for fiscal year 2024, which began in the United States on Oct. 1.

McCarthy was elected speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives in January 2023. This post is the third most important in the U.S. government hierarchy. Due to the position of a small group of fellow party members, McCarthy was able to gain the necessary number of votes only in the 15th round of voting on his candidacy. He then had to make concessions to try to convince congressmen to approve his candidacy. In particular, McCarthy agreed to certain restrictions on the terms and conditions of his tenure as Speaker.
