Japan confirms virus in man who had not been to China

Japanese authorities confirmed the first case of new coronavirus infection in the country, not related to trips to China, according to Kyodo News. 

Japan’s Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare Katsunobu Kato noted that this case is not related to persons who have recently arrived from China. 

The bus driver was diagnosed with pneumonia on 25 January and is currently hospitalised at a medical institution in the country’s western Nara Prefecture. 

According to the latest data, the number of cases of pneumonia caused by a new type of coronavirus in China has reached 4515 people, of whom 106 have died. Outside of mainland China, cases of infection have been reported in Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Thailand, Japan, South Korea, the United States, Canada, Vietnam, Singapore, Nepal, France, Australia, Malaysia, and Germany.
