DogPhone allows your dog to call you when he wants to communicate

Quite often, dog owners are forced to leave their pets at home alone, going to work or on business. It is possible to monitor their behavior remotely with the help of surveillance cameras connected through special applications to the smartphone. However, this is a one-way communication. And what if the pet itself, when it gets bored, can call the owner?

Dr. Ilene Hirsky-Douglas of the University of Glasgow (Scotland) and her colleagues at Aalto University (Finland) created the DogPhone device that fits inside a dog-friendly toy, in this particular case, inside a tennis ball.

From the device connected to a laptop, the pet can actually make video calls on its own initiative while playing with the ball. At this time, the accelerometer will first capture the movement, then initiate a video call to the owner.

The dog also gets the opportunity, just like a human, to answer or ignore the call. In fact, this is a new and quite amusing technology of communication with animals.
