Biden says conversation with McCarthy about raising the U.S. debt ceiling "went well"

President Joe Biden called a good phone conversation about raising the debt ceiling with U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (Republican from the state of California).

Asked by reporters how the conversation with McCarthy went, Biden said: “It went well, we’ll talk tomorrow.” The U.S. leader noted this as he returned to Washington from Hiroshima, where he attended the G7 leaders’ summit.

Earlier, McCarthy reported a productive phone conversation with Joe Baden and said they had agreed to meet May 22 to further discuss the situation.
