Apple will strengthen iPhone theft protection with owner movement data

Apple will strengthen protection of smartphones of iPhone line from theft with the help of data on typical routes of owners’ movements.

The updated security system will be part of one of the future updates of the IOS operating system – users will be able to activate it in the “Face ID and password” section of the settings. When activating the additional protection, the smartphone will be able to read data about the user’s movements and, if it detects deviations from typical routes, will introduce new security protocols on the device.

Unlocking the iPhone, as well as accessing saved passwords and changing the password of the Apple ID account will require identification through Face ID facial recognition.

A “wave of thefts” of Apple mobile devices in the US has previously been reported. Criminals follow iPhone owners in crowded places and try to discreetly see the six-digit combination of numbers they use to unlock the device. They can use it to change Apple account data, access stored passwords and banking applications.
