In North Carolina, 35 people are missing due to flooding

At least 35 people are missing as a result of severe flooding caused by Tropical Storm Fred in the U.S. state of North Carolina, television channel CNN, citing local authorities.

According to the data, ground and air rescue teams were sent to the areas most severely affected by the hurricane in order to search for the missing and ensure the safety of the population. It is noted that currently more than 50 people are in temporary shelters, bridges and roads are blocked throughout the county west of the city of Asheville.

“With the help of rescue teams from across North Carolina, we have searched abandoned vehicles, homes, buildings for survivors and will continue the search to make sure every missing person is found or at least accounted for,” said Haywood County Sheriff Greg Christopher.

Tropical Storm Fred has weakened to a post-tropical cyclone, but is still a hazard. Thunderstorms are expected that could result in tornadoes and wind gusts of up to 70 miles per hour.
