Britney Spears asked the court to terminate her father's custody of her
American singer Britney Spears has asked a court to end her father’s custody of her, CNN reported.
On Wednesday, Spears, 39, spoke virtually over the phone in her custody case.
“I’m traumatized. I’m not happy. I can’t sleep,” the singer said of her 13 years of custody.
During her speech, Spears criticized the actions of her family, especially her father James Spears. “I’ve been working since I was 17 … I want custody to end,” she stated.
Britney Spears is one of the most popular singers of our time. Already after her first two records (1999-2000) she was recognized as the best-selling singer of the decade in the U.S., she ranked 12th among the richest women in the world of show business.
The singer’s mental health, which included alcohol and drug use, took a hit after her divorce from husband Kevin Federline in 2007. Spears and Federline were married from October 2004 to July 2007 and have two sons.
James Spears and attorney Andrew Wallet obtained temporary custody of Britney Spears in 2008, after which the custody was extended indefinitely. In 2019, Britney’s father became her sole guardian.
