The mayor of Paris has introduced new fines for those who use electric scooters and violate the safety of pedestrians.
So, for driving on the sidewalk now it is necessary to pay a fine in the amount of 135 euros, and for parking a scooter (both personal and owned by a sharing service) in the wrong place – 35 euros.
Over the past year, electric scooters have become very popular in Paris, they can accelerate to 20 kilometers per hour and make it easy to drive around traffic jams.
In Paris, there are several sharing services that allow you to rent a scooter through a mobile application and leave it in a convenient place. Now there are 15 thousand of these electric scooters in the French capital, and by the end of 2019 their number can increase to 40 thousand. In the city there are almost no special parking lots, users often leave scooters in the wrong places (for example, on the lawn) or block the lane with them.
Along with the introduction of the fine, the mayor of Paris promised to build special parking lots in busy parts of the city later this year.
