The AI defeated a real pilot in air combat in 90 seconds

An experimental duel took place in China between two drones, one controlled by artificial intelligence and the other by a remote operator. As a result, after just a minute and a half, the AI won the short-range battle.

This unique aerial battle was conducted by a team of scientists from the PLA’s Aerodynamics Research and Development Center, led by Professor Huang Juntao. According to him, despite some problems, the duel “proved the technical soundness of AI-assisted piloting technology.”

According to the researchers, with its powerful computing power, AI can predict the course of the battle much more accurately than humans, which allows it to easily seize the initiative at the right moment.

In favor of the AI, there is also the fact that it does not have to worry about purely human problems related to life support – for example, in case of oxygen supply failure, high overloads on bends and other maneuvers.
