Snowstorms killed 50 people in the U.S. and Canada

The death toll from the weekend snowstorm that engulfed the U.S. has reached 46 people. In addition, according to TV channel CBC, four more people were killed in Canada as a result of an accident in the province of British Columbia, where the bus overturned on the road because of the ice, a total of 50 people were injured.

This week, bad weather came to much of the United States and Canada in the form of severe cold weather, strong wind gusts and snowfall. One of the hardest hit states was New York, with more than a foot of snow falling in some areas on Sunday. As a result, 18 people were killed in the city of Buffalo because of the elements.

In 13 eastern states, grid operator PJM Interconnection asked residents to limit electricity use Sunday morning and lower temperatures in homes to avoid overloading distribution infrastructure. Temperatures dropped to near record lows in many states.

Severe weather warnings affected about 55 million Americans living in the central and eastern part of the country. Because of bad weather at the weekend in the U.S., more than 5 thousand flights were canceled.
