Biden says Musk bought Twitter "spews lies to the world"

U.S. President Joe Biden said he was concerned about entrepreneur Ilon Musk’s purchase of Twitter because the social networking site of the same name is a tool that “spews lies to the world.”

“That’s what we’re all concerned about right now: Elon Musk taking and buying a tool that spreads, spews lies to the whole world,” Biden said Friday, speaking at a campaign event in Chicago, Illinois. Reuters quoted him as saying.

Musk’s intention to buy Twitter for $44 billion was announced by the company’s management in April. The deal was postponed due to a dispute between them about the number of fake accounts in the social network of the same name. On July 12, Twitter executives went to court in an attempt to force the businessman to fulfill his obligations.

On Oct. 27, Musk closed the deal to acquire Twitter. The new owner is expected to abolish the practice of permanently blocking users. He also announced that he was creating a special council, which will study the issue of content moderation.

According to the documents posted on October 31 in the database of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the billionaire intends to dissolve the board of directors of the company. Immediately after the purchase of Twitter, Musk fired several members of the board. Later Bloomberg reported that the entrepreneur plans to cut the staff almost in half, on Friday the first layoffs of Twitter employees began.
