Biden: a year of U.S. sanctions will cost Russia 15 years of achievement

US President Joe Biden has said that a year of US sanctions will cost Russia’s economy 15 years of achievements. He promised that the U.S. would continue to supply Ukraine with the necessary weapons and resources to defend the country.

“In one year, our sanctions are capable of wiping out the Russian economy’s gains of the last 15 years,” Biden said.

He said the U.S. will continue to increase the economic price Russia pays for its military operation in Ukraine.

“We’re going to strangle the ability of the Russian economy to grow for years to come,” Biden said.

The conflict in Ukraine could stretch on for a long time. Biden said he has signed a defense assistance package for Ukraine that includes a portable anti-tank missile system. According to him, the USA is ready to provide Ukraine with military and other assistance in such amounts as will be necessary.

On April 6, the US introduced a new package of sanctions against Russia. Sberbank and Alfa Bank fell under the full blocking sanctions. The restrictive measures were extended to members of the Russian Security Council, including Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
