Prosecutor’s Office launched a tax investigation into Biden’s son

The Delaware State Attorney’s Office is conducting a preliminary investigation into the sources of income of U.S. President Biden’s son Hunter Biden, including in connection with his work in Ukraine, for possible tax violations. This is reported by The Wall Street Journal.

Representatives of the prosecutor’s office in recent weeks have been actively sending out requests to former partners of Hunter Biden. In particular, they are referring to the money received by the US president’s son from the Ukrainian energy company Burisma Holdings in the mid-2010s and the use of these funds to buy blocks of bonds.

Hunter Biden served on Burisma’s board of directors in 2014-2015, receiving about $50,000 a month for mediation, consulting and lobbying services. Political opponents of the current U.S. president suggest that during this time the Biden family formed a personal interest in the situation in Ukraine and ties with the current authorities of the country.

The investigation is still preliminary in nature. The evidence gathered, if warranted, can be presented to a federal grand jury, which decides whether charges can be brought.
