Biden named the amount of damage to the U.S. from global warming this year

The United States authorities estimate the damage from global warming this year at $100 billion, U.S. President Joe Biden said Monday, speaking in New Jersey.

“This year alone, global warming has damaged us to the tune of more than $1 trillion, sorry, $100 billion,” Biden said. He recalled that in mid-September he visited New Jersey, which was hit by the aftermath of Hurricane Ida. The American leader attributed the storm’s impact to climate change.

Since then, the federal government has “approved applications for assistance from about 30,000 residents of the state, and allocated $150 million for repairs, replacement and rental assistance and other needs.” Between 2010 and 2020, 24 extreme weather events occurred in the state.

Category 4 Hurricane Ida struck the state of Louisiana on Aug. 29, at which time more than a million customers lost power. Echoes of Ida caused heavy rains and flooding in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
