A fourth power substation was attacked by vandals on Christmas Eve in Washington state, leaving homes in the communities of Kapowsin and Graham temporarily without power.
More than 10,500 Puget Sound Energy utility customers throughout the region were without power.
The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office said the suspects broke into a fenced-in area and damaged equipment, leading to a fire.
The fire was extinguished and power was later restored, but the suspects were not apprehended.
The attacks came amid warnings from federal officials that the U.S. power grid needs better protection to prevent domestic terrorism and after a massive power outage in North Carolina earlier this month. It took several days to recover then.
