U.S. ranks first in the world in detecting cases of monkeypox

The United States has moved into first place in the world for the number of monkeypox cases reported in a single country. The Wall Street Journal reported this on Tuesday, citing data from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Earlier, the CDC had updated data on the spread of the viral disease in the United States. According to the latest information, 3,487 cases of monkeypox have already been identified in the country. The largest number of cases was recorded in the states of New York (990), California (356) and Illinois (344).

The U.S. has become the country with the highest number of detected infections since the beginning of the spread” of the viral disease. The increase in the number of infections comes amid increased testing opportunities, but also because of rising global incidence of the disease. The actual number of infections is probably much higher.
