U.S. intends to convene an open meeting of the UN Security Council

The U.S. plans to hold an open meeting of the UN Security Council on Wednesday on the missile launches of the DPRK. This was reported by Reuters on Tuesday.

The meeting will be held because of Tuesday’s launch of a DPRK missile that flew over Japanese territory.

Tokyo and Washington held joint drills on the western Japanese island of Kyushu after the DPRK missile launch. Twelve fighters were involved.

The DPRK launched a missile that flew over Japan’s northern Aomori prefecture and landed outside Japan’s exclusive economic zone in the Pacific Ocean. According to the Japanese side, the DPRK probably launched an intercontinental ballistic missile of the Hwasong-12 type. It was able to overcome a distance of 4.6 thousand kilometers, which is the maximum in all the tests carried out by Pyongyang.

This is the 23rd missile test by North Korea since the beginning of the year. The last time Pyongyang launched a ballistic missile that flew over Japan was in September 2017.
