Trump sued CNN

Former U.S. President Donald Trump sued CNN, accusing it of defamation, and demanded damages of $475 million. He claims that the network conducted a “campaign of slander and lies” against him.

CNN declined to comment on the suit.

Trump claims that CNN used its position as the leading news organization to defeat him politically. The 29-page document says the network has long been critical of Trump, but has stepped up its attacks in recent months because it feared he would run for president again in 2024.

“As part of its concerted efforts … CNN has attempted to tar plaintiff with a series of increasingly scandalous, false and defamatory labels: ‘racist,’ ‘Russian lackey,’ ‘rebel’ and, ultimately, ‘Hitler,'” the suit says.

The suit lists several instances in which CNN apparently compared Trump to Hitler, including a special report by host Farid Zakaria in January 2022 that included footage of the German dictator.

The lawsuit comes amid significant legal challenges facing Donald Trump, including a Justice Department criminal investigation into secret documents found at his Mar-a-Lago estate.

Last month, Trump was sued by New York State Attorney General Letitia James, accusing him of lying to banks and insurance companies about the value of his assets.

The former U.S. president is also being scrutinized by a House committee that is investigating the Jan. 6, 2021 attack by Trump supporters on the U.S. Capitol, focusing on the former president’s role.
