The world's largest Ferris wheel will appear in Seoul
The Seoul authorities have approved a project to build a giant Ferris wheel on the outskirts of the city. At 590 feet tall, it would be the tallest wheel in the world without the spokes.
The details of the project are not fully disclosed. However, it is stated that part of the energy required to operate the wheel will be provided by renewable sources. In fact, Ferris wheels without spokes do not rotate as they do with models of classical design. Instead, the movement of the carriages along the outer rim is provided by a special gear system.
The Seoul Wheel will appear on the artificial island of Nodil in Hanul Park. It used to be a garbage dump, but decades of effort have transformed it into one of the city’s most beautiful recreational areas. The Seoul Ring is scheduled to begin construction in 2025, and in two years the new tourist site will receive its first visitors.
