The British auction house Sotheby’s has bought for $100 million a building in New York, where until 2015 was located the Whitney Museum of American Art.

This building in Manhattan will become a site for major auctions and exhibitions after the renovation is completed in 2025. It was built in the 1960s and designed by architect Marcel Breuer. In Sotheby’s during the reconstruction of expect to preserve the architectural appearance of the building.

Previously it rented the Metropolitan Museum of Art, but financial problems forced him to leave the premises. Later the building housed an exhibition of the art museum The Frick Collection.
