Shooting between South Korea and North Korea
North Korean soldiers fired 10 artillery salvos toward the sea from the west coast of the country, the official North Korean news agency KCNA said.
The firing came an hour after the South Korean military fired several warning shots at a North Korean vessel that had crossed the maritime boundary line between the two countries.
According to a spokesman for South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, the country’s military returned a North Korean merchant ship that had crossed the North Line of Limitations (NLL), which is actually the maritime boundary in the Yellow Sea between South and North Korea, with warning fire.
“The General Staff of the Korean People’s Army ordered the firing of 10 rounds from multiple rocket launchers to send back the enemy warship,” said a statement from North Korea’s spokesman released by the KCNA news agency.
