Scientists have learned about a powerful immune response in coronavirus
The coronavirus provokes a powerful immune response that interferes with the fight against infection, scientists from the University of San Francisco found. The results of the study were published by the portal MedicalXpress.
Experts believe that the body begins to get rid of the virus within a few minutes after infection and excessive fighting leads to a severe course of the disease.
At the same time, the immune response when infected with coronavirus differs significantly from its behavior when the flu virus enters the body, the study notes.
Scientists also found that the coronavirus is able to affect not only the cells of the human respiratory system, but also parts of other organs. In this it is helped by protein spikes, because of which it got its name. However, penetration into cells through the respiratory tract is really the easiest for the virus, according to scientists.
According to the latest data from the world health organization, the number of cases of coronavirus infection has exceeded 17.6 million. More than 680,000 people have become victims of the disease.
