Omega X-33 Marstimer Watches Measure Time on Earth and Mars
Although no one can walk on Mars yet, Omega has already created a Speedmaster X-33 Marstimer watch with the European Space Agency that is suitable for use on the planet. It can also be used successfully on Earth by simply selecting the appropriate mode. What’s more, this watch has a solar compass function that will prevent you from getting lost on any planet.
The main difference in measuring time on Mars is that a day on Mars is 24 hours 39 minutes and 35 seconds long and that a Martian year consists of 668 sols. The X-33 has an analog movement and a digital screen that easily switches between Earth and Mars modes of operation. There’s a 100-hour chronograph and a perpetual calendar, with counting leap years on both planets. Plus three universal timers for timing a mission to either planet.
The watch case is made of titanium, as is the strap, which meets NATO standards. The aluminum oxalate bezel, with hematite added, has a dark red color that recalls the color of the Martian sands. The watches are water resistant to 30 meters depth and have sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, thermal compensation system for Martian climate and power saving mode.
The Omega Speedmaster X-33 Marstimer will cost $6400.
