Florida county imposes curfew after Hurricane Ian

Authorities in Collier County, Florida, have imposed a curfew after Hurricane Ian struck. An ordinance to that effect was published Thursday on the county’s website.

The curfew is imposed “throughout Collier County from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Friday, Sept. 30.” Such measures were taken by the authorities in order to “ensure the safety of the residents of the district themselves, as well as their property.”

The curfew does not apply to rescuers, medical workers, as well as the staff of companies associated with the provision of basic services. Authorities stress that the measure will not affect those who require medical assistance.

According to the U.S. National Hurricane Watch Center, Ian, which hit the Florida coast on Wednesday as a Category 4 hurricane, weakened to a tropical storm on Thursday but then intensified again to a Category 1 hurricane with wind gusts up to 33 m/s.

The Governor of Florida Ron Desantis stated that the impact of the elements caused historical damage to the state, it will take years to fully recover. As notes CNN, local authorities have reported on 17 cases of people’s deaths, 15 of them were recorded in several counties on the Gulf Coast, where the main blow of the elements came. More than 2.1 million consumers remain without electricity in the state.
