Nikki Haley plans to run for president

Former South Carolina Republican Governor Nikki Haley on February 15 will run for president in 2024, thus acting as a rival to former President Donald Trump.

According to local publication The Post and Courier, which first reported the planned announcement, Haley will announce her intention to run for president later Wednesday.

Recall that Haley served as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations from 2017 to 2018.

If Haley gets the nomination, she will become the first female Republican presidential candidate in history.

Haley has repeatedly distanced herself from Trump, but has also stated that he plays an important role in the Republican Party.

In the past, she has sometimes made controversial remarks on racial issues.

At a campaign rally in November, for example, she said that Democratic Senator Rafael Warnock, a Savannah-born African-American from Georgia, should be “deported.

Polls show that Haley, who was governor of South Carolina from 2011 to 2017, is popular there.
