McDonald's will temporarily close offices in the U.S. due to layoffs
McDonald’s Corporation has decided to temporarily close its offices in the U.S. amid the impending staff cuts. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal with reference to a letter from the company’s management sent to employees last week.
McDonald’s management advised employees to cancel all meetings with vendors and other events scheduled to take place at the company’s offices. “During the week beginning April 3, we will communicate important decisions regarding positions and headcount throughout the organization,” management was quoted as saying.
The exact number of employees to be cut is not yet known. Around the world, McDonald’s employs at least 150,000 people, about 70% of them in the United States. The company’s management announced its intention to cut some of its staff in January.
According to estimates presented in January by the National Association for Business Economics, within a few months, about 20% of U.S. companies could cut staff because of deteriorating economic conditions. So far, the Walt Disney Company, Amazon, Meta, Twitter, Alphabet, Microsoft, Boeing and others have announced staff reductions.
