Lenovo has unveiled the first transparent laptop without buttons

At the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona, Lenovo showed the ThinkBook, a concept of the laptop of the future as imagined by its engineers and designers. This is a futuristic device with an emphasized absence of physical buttons, except for the power button. The entire interface here is touchscreen.

The laptop’s screen has variable transparency, it’s a 17.3-inch Micro-LED panel that can be up to 55% transparent when the pixel backlight is turned off. Once turned on, their brightness can be increased up to 3000 nits. The resolution of the screen is only 720p, but this is a basic value – it will be increased when commercial versions appear.

The need for a transparent screen is justified by the desire to provide users with augmented reality capabilities without the use of a headset. This can come in handy for artists and designers who work with some objects and do not want to take their eyes off the monitor to look at them. Due to the lack of a top panel on the screen, the laptop has no webcam, although in theory it could be useful for video conferencing, when you need to see the remote interlocutor and the one who sits opposite.

Instead of a keyboard, the ThinkBook has a solid touchpad that switches between different modes. For example, it can become a designer’s digital canvas. Or combine the capabilities of a keyboard and touchpad. There is no information about the hardware of the model, because it is a concept.
