Jill Biden had her cancerous growths removed

Surgeons removed a cancerous tumor above First Lady Jill Biden’s right eye and another on her chest. Doctors are also examining a third tumor on her left eyelid.

President Joe Biden’s physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, said studies have shown that the masses above Jill Biden’s right eye and on her breast are basal cell carcinomas.

The tumor on the left eye was “completely excised, marginalized, and sent for standard microscopic examination,” O’Connor said.

Basal cell carcinoma is the most curable form of skin cancer. It is a slowly progressive cancer that is usually confined to the surface of the skin and rarely causes serious complications or is life-threatening. Doctors can almost always remove it completely with a shallow excision.

The Bidens spent the day at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center near Washington, D.C., where the 71-year-old first lady underwent a routine outpatient procedure, known as Mohs surgery, in which tumors were removed and examined.
