In Finland, a curious "snow skateboard" has been invented
Finland has developed an ingenious snowboard for speeding down snowy slopes. Slede is something in between a classic snowboard and a skateboard. Its upper part, made of seven layers of Canadian maple, is borrowed from a skateboard, but instead of wheels, the board rests on four skis made like mini snowboards. Initially, each ski is set in a straight line, but thanks to a spring mechanism, its position can change when in contact with irregularities in the snow surface.
Stainless steel blades are mounted on either side of each ski. They function as stabilizers, making you feel more confident and secure. Smaller blades can be used in thicker snow, and longer blades in loose snow. The skis themselves require the same care as a classic snowboard – they need to be waxed from time to time.
The manufacturer states that all parts of their device can be replaced in case of breakage without going to the service center. Everything you need for repair is readily available. The Slede is expected to retail soon for $386.
