ICON will print the world's largest residential complex
One of the world’s leaders in 3D printing, the American company ICON, together with the homebuilding company Lennar, are embarking on a project to build a housing estate of 100 family homes in Austin, Texas, designed by the design firm Bjarke Ingels Group. It will be the world’s largest community built with this technology.
Its implementation, as well as previous similar projects will be carried out by a powerful construction 3D printer Icon Vulcan, layer-by-layer application of cement mixture and forming the walls of homes. Next, the builders will continue and complete the work. They will install the roof, doors, windows, water, electricity, finishes, and furniture.
The project will start in 2022. More information is not yet available, including its total cost. What is known, however, is that ICON homes already erected with 3D printing technology cost their owners only $450,000 each.
