Google released a foldable smartphone Pixel Fold

Following its competitors, Google released the Pixel Fold smartphone in the “clamshell” form factor. It offers users much more features than devices of classic design. In “smartphone mode” the diagonal of the display reaches 5.8 inches, and the resolution is 2092×1080 pixels.

In the unfolded state, the user gets a display of 7.6 inches with a resolution of 2208×1840, which is more like the characteristics of a tablet. The developers declare a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz and a camera capable of recording video in 4K. Experts, evaluating the gadget, have already managed to find a drawback – it is a protruding lens, which can suffer if you put the device carelessly on the table.

The manufacturers tried to make the novelty as functional as possible, providing a translator mode, the ability to drag and drop files between applications and multitasking. However, none of the Pixel Fold screen is capable of interacting with a stylus or electronic pen. The OS offered is Android 13 with a guaranteed 5-year support release of security updates.

Of particular interest is the gadget’s quadruple camera. It has laser auto-focus and includes sensors with a resolution of 48, 10.8, 10.8 and 5 megapixels. It uses technology that has proven itself in other phones of the brand, and the external screen can be used to frame and control the shooting. Users are likely to appreciate the IPX8 water protection, stereo speakers and support for two SIM cards. The smartphone supports 5G networks.

Pixel Fold with a battery of 4821 mA⋅h can last at least a day in “normal use” mode or up to 72 hours in maximum economy mode. There is fast and wireless charging. The device is available by pre-order with pickup as early as June. The $1,799 price tag matches the Samsung Galaxy Fold4.
