Florida governor allows concealed carry in state

WASHINGTON, April 4.

Florida Governor Ron Desantis has signed into law legislation allowing concealed carry on state property without a permit from authorities. This was announced by the governor’s press office.

“Today, Governor Desantis signed Bill 543, which strengthens Florida residents’ Second Amendment rights under the Constitution by allowing concealed carry of guns without a permit issued by authorities,” the release stated.

It is noted that the law will take effect July 1, 2023. Florida will become the 26th U.S. state to allow concealed carry. “The constitutional carry of guns is legalized,” Desantis commented on the signing of the law.

The White House criticized such a decision by Florida’s governor in light of the recent school shooting in Tennessee that killed six people, including three children. “It is shameful that shortly after another tragedy involving a school shooting, Florida Governor Ron Desantis has behind closed doors legalized the concealed carry of guns, thus eliminating the need for a permit,” said White House spokeswoman Karin Jean-Pierre.

The Gun Violence Archive, a nongovernmental organization, estimates that shooting incidents of all kinds in the United States in 2022 killed more than 44,300 people and injured about 38,600 more.

The right to own firearms is guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
