Curly hair become a gift for the evolution of mankind

Many animals have wool, none of them have hair in the form of curls-except humans. This is a byproduct of our sanity, for among all hairy creatures, only humans have two related critical factors. First, we have a large brain volume vulnerable to overheating. Second, because of uprightness, it is the cranial box that receives the greatest amount of solar heat, and is therefore prone to overheating.

Experiments by scientists at the University of Pennsylvania on mannequins with sensors proved conclusively that it is the curly hair structure that is most effective in cooling the head. The complex structure of hair in curls creates a large number of air pockets, which form a kind of heat filter around the head. And it is no coincidence that it is the stiff, but curly hair that is a characteristic feature of the peoples of hot Africa, from where all mankind originated.

Animal hair in its mass is designed to keep warm and protect the skin from various negative factors. In humans, on the contrary, hair performs a function of protection against overheating, since in terms of evolution, our species originated and lived almost all the time in a very warm climate. If we remove the hair, humans start to sweat much more for the sake of cooling the body, but this leads to catastrophic dehydration, so this mutation did not take root. As we settled into areas with a different climate, people began to change, but it was still too little time before these changes took hold in our genotype.
