Britney Spears’ Father Suspended from Custody

A court in Los Angeles has ruled to remove James Spears, father of American singer Britney Spears, from custody of his daughter. He is deprived of the right to control the artist’s finances: the funds are temporarily transferred to the management of accountant John Zabel. Jody Montgomery, who is in charge of Britney Spears’ health, will continue to serve as guardian for now. The next hearing, scheduled for November 12, will decide whether to terminate custody of the singer.

On Wednesday, September 29, another custody hearing was held in Los Angeles for singer Britney Spears. Judge Brenda Penney ruled that the artist’s father should immediately be removed from custody and have no control over his daughter’s finances.

“I believe that removal is in the best interest of the person in custody. The existing situation is intolerable,” the judge stated.

Matthew Rosengart, the artist’s lawyer, called her father an abusive and toxic man and stressed that he should have been removed long ago.

According to Variety, the next hearing is scheduled for November 12. At it, the question of full custody termination will be discussed. Until then, accountant John Zabel will manage Britney Spears’ estate. Jody Montgomery will also continue to serve as guardian. She is responsible for the singer’s health and making medical decisions.
