Border with Mexico to send 1.5 thousand troops due to influx of migrants

The Washington administration intends to redeploy 1,500 U.S. troops to the border with Mexico for 90 days in light of the expected influx of migrants.

The military will support law enforcement and border agencies, including transporting migrants and searching for narcotics.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security previously requested support. Authorities expect the easing of some restrictions that have been imposed because of the new coronavirus pandemic to increase the number of migrants coming into the country.

Some 2,500 National Guardsmen are already on the border with Mexico. They are assisting the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
