Biden to Appoint Jeff Zients as White House Chief of Staff
President Joe Biden will appoint Jeff Zients, the former White House pandemic policy coordinator, as chief of staff.
Ron Kline, the current White House chief of staff, plans to leave his post in the coming weeks, sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.
Zients served as the White House’s COVID coordinator from the beginning of the Biden administration until last April. He is credited with implementing Biden’s vaccination efforts. He has been criticized, however, for not doing enough to improve testing capacity by the administration.
Zients served as an economic adviser in President Barack Obama’s administration, in which Biden served as vice president.
The White House has not commented on the report of Zients’ possible appointment.
