Biden: Republican election victory will weaken democracy in the U.S.

U.S. President Joe Biden spoke at a campaign event in support of Democrats just two days before the midterm elections in which Republicans could gain control of both houses of Congress.

Biden warned that a Republican victory in the Nov. 8 midterm elections could weaken democracy in the United States.

At the same time, at a campaign rally in support of Republicans, former President Donald Trump spoke, hinting in his speech that he might run for president of the United States again.

Democrats are likely to face a rather bleak election outlook, despite Biden’s fulfilled promises to stimulate clean energy and provide funding to rebuild crumbling roads and bridges.

The Republican Party has criticized Biden for high inflation and rising crime after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Independent experts predict that Republicans will win a majority in the House of Representatives and possibly the Senate.

Democrats have effectively lost their lead in the race for Senate seats in Georgia, Pennsylvania and Nevada.

If Republicans gain control of even one chamber of Congress, it will allow them to oppose Biden’s legislative initiatives and launch potentially devastating investigations of the Democratic Party.

Biden warned that many Republican candidates are threatening Democratic norms by repeating Trump’s false claims about stolen elections in 2020. “Democracy is literally on the ballot,” he said, speaking to students at Sarah Lawrence College in Yonkers, N.Y. “You can’t love your country only when you win.”

At a rally in Miami, former President Donald Trump repeated many of his unsubstantiated complaints about the 2020 election and hinted that he may soon announce his intention to run for president in 2024.

“I may have to do it again, but stay tuned,” he said, criticizing the Biden administration for everything from rising crime to dirty airports.

Trump’s adviser said a formal announcement of Trump’s presidential run in 2024 could be made within a month.

Despite Biden’s warning about the threat to democracy, many of his colleagues in the Democratic Party prefer to focus on more practical topics, such as reducing prescription drug prices and protecting social benefits.

Opinion polls show that while many are involved in campaigning for women’s abortion rights, it is not a priority for voters.

Republicans have questioned Democrats’ support for law enforcement and have expressed concerns about crime, which voters are particularly concerned about, due to the increase in homicides during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Democrats are burdened by Biden’s unpopularity. According to a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll, only 40 percent of Americans approve of Joe Biden’s performance as president.

Thus New York Governor Katie Hochul, a Democrat, is facing an unexpectedly tough challenge from Republican Lee Zeldin, while Democratic congressional candidates are fighting fiercely across the state.

Key Democratic and Republican Party figures have been campaigning hard in recent weeks.
